HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) is reporting the following closures on state roads as the Kona Depression continues to impact the Hawaiian Islands:

Both lanes on Kekaulike Avenue between mile post 8 (near Maui Wedding Flowers) and Alae Road are closed. Major utility repairs to remove fallen trees from power lines and replace fallen poles have been completed, additional utility work is underway. HDOT is working to remove debris. The next steps will be the repair of a section where the guardrail and the shoulder have been washed away. Due to the continued rain in the area, HDOT is asking residents to use side streets to access their homes.

The single-lane closure of the Farrington Freeway near Makua Cave is expected to continue as the team works to clear debris from landslides and rockfall and wash the road.

Additional closures could be announced as flood monitoring remains in effect for Oahu and Kauai until this afternoon. Any impact on state transportation facilities will be posted at
