EUGENE, Ore. – Welding students at Lane Community College now have the opportunity to apply for four paid internships.
Internships are offered through the college’s cooperative education department. This is part of a partnership between the college and the Springfield area chamber of commerce.
Four industry partners presented a discussion on the need for more welders through the chamber’s out-of-the-box training committee.
Avril Watt, who works for Astec Industries in Eugene, shared her thoughts on new opportunities for students.
“I hope this will provide a win-win outcome: students gain real-world experience alongside classroom instruction, LCC retains students until graduation, and employers gain a talent pool.” in welding to eventually hire full time. Watt said.
Industry partners hope programs like this will help fill the substantial need for welders among local organizations.
