MEXICAN superstar Canelo Alvarez has been tipped to become a heavyweight world champion in the future if he decides to put on weight.
The 31-year-old has won world titles in four weight categories, from light-middleweight to light-heavyweight.
And the undisputed super middleweight champion could be about to leap two divisions to face WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu.
The governing body has given the green light for dusting to take place in 2022, with the winner of Makabu and challenger Thabiso Mchunu to take on Canelo next.
Canelo admitted it was his trainer Eddy Reynoso who suggested he put on 32 pounds and move up to cruiserweight without even consulting hin.
Meanwhile, promoter Eddie Hearn has said Canelo could move up to heavyweight as he says the Guadalajara native aims to make history.
And Canelo’s teammate Frank Sanchez, who edged heavyweight Christian Hammer this weekend, shares similar views with Hearn.
He believes he can become a world champion in the glamor division to compete with top boxers, although he hasn’t mentioned specific opponents for his training partner.

Speaking to DAZN, the undefeated Cuban said: âLook, I fought with Canelo.
âI can tell you with the utmost confidence that Canelo has heavyweight power.
âHe can handle the cruiserweight, and in my opinion he could be a heavyweight champion if he got down to it.
âCanelo is an absolute stallion. He is very serious and very respectful both to me and his work ethic.
âThe biggest lesson I learned from him is the fact that it doesn’t matter whether you are training or being in the ring, you have to be serious about your job, you have to follow him with passion.
“That’s the main thing I got from being with Canelo, someone I really appreciate.”
Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, who holds the WBA, WBO and IBF belts, has opened the door to a game against Alvarez.
Although boxing legend Roy Jones Jr has warned the skillful Ukrainian southpaw against the Canelo fight.
